Healing Is a Family Journey: Spotlighting Providers Who Walk Alongside Moms
As we reflect on May and honor wrapping up Maternal Mental Health Month and celebrating Mother’s Day, we spotlight Colorado providers who recognize that recovery doesn’t happen in isolation — it happens in community.
Our May theme, Healing is a Family Journey, centers on the truth that recovery strengthens more than just one person. It rebuilds trust, reconnects relationships and supports generational healing. Whether that “family” is made up of children, chosen family, peer support or the people who show up and don’t give up, this journey is stronger when walked together.
In this month’s provider features, we highlight two powerful examples:
- At Aurora Mental Health & Recovery, Clinical Director Erin Ralston shares how integrated mental health and substance use care that is rooted in peer support helps moms feel safe enough to stay in recovery.
- At CADREC, Executive Director Yvonne Martin and clinician Denise Rodriguez speak to the power of neighborhood-based recovery, where clients don’t just receive services — they find belonging, connection and family-like support.
- Through the recovery stories of Erin and Priscilla, we hear from two mothers who rebuilt their lives, regained their families, and now support others walking the same path. A reminder that healing can begin with one person, but its impact reaches generations.
These stories remind us: when we walk beside mothers without judgment and with flexibility, recovery becomes not only possible, but powerful to everyone in their circle.
We encourage all providers to share information about Special Connections, Colorado’s residential treatment option for pregnant and parenting moms, and CRAFT, a proven strategy to engage families in supporting loved ones toward recovery. These resources are designed to help you amplify family-centered recovery and reduce stigma in your communities.
Together, we can continue to build systems that support healing not just for individuals, but for all families of any kind.
